13th Undiagnosed Diseases Network International Conference Concludes Successfully

Strengthening global networks for the diagnosis and research of rare diseases.

The Child Cancer & Rare Disease Project of Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) announced on September 10 that the 13th Undiagnosed Diseases Network International (UDNI) Conference was successfully held from September 5 to 7 at Seoul National University Children’s Hospital.

This was the first international academic conference on undiagnosed rare diseases in Korea and marked the 10th anniversary of UDNI. The event brought together 282 researchers and experts from 30 countries, including 138 international participants. Esteemed scholars such as Joseph G. Gleeson (University of California, San Diego), Monkol Lek (Yale University), Kenjiro Kosaki (Keio University, Japan), and Olaf Riess (Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, Germany) presented their research findings.

The conference also featured the presentation of research programs and achievements on undiagnosed diseases from various Asian countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, India, and Taiwan, providing a valuable opportunity to strengthen networks among Asian researchers.

Undiagnosed rare diseases refer to conditions that current biomedical technologies cannot identify, affecting only a small number of patients worldwide. Due to their rarity, these diseases are challenging to study, causing significant distress for patients and their families.

UDNI seeks to address these challenges by promoting international cooperation to identify similar cases, harnessing the expertise of leading researchers to advance diagnosis and treatment options for affected patients.
